Irby Serves First Responders at Company Cook Out

Irby employees look forward to every third Thursday of the month because of the monthly company cookout. Visiting with co-workers, eating good food and recognizing employee birthdays’ is one way we stay connected as a work family.

The Irby Third Thursday cookout on May 18 was a little more special than usual as we dedicated the time together to honor both the Richland Fire Department and the Richland Police Department by including first responders in our monthly gathering. In the City of Richland, we are surrounded by an amazing team of first responders, and this was just a small way for us to show our appreciation for them.

Mr. Bill Joy arrived at Irby headquarters around 3 AM, Thursday morning to begin preparing the mouthwatering brisket that everyone enjoyed. Bill and his team are dedicated to making third Thursdays at Irby a little brighter!

Infrastructure Projects Lobbying for Space in Trumps Plan

Marketplace® has teamed with American Public Media Reports to track proposed infrastructure projects around the country as President Trump prepares his $1 trillion plan. The first in a series of stories resulting from the partnership was released May 11, 2017, at Marketplace.org.

According to the story,  Trump’s team has been soliciting requests from across the country, over the past five months. APM has collected a list of more than 500 project requests covering 50 states from governors, consultants, contractors, unions, and advisers through public record requests and interviews.

Advisors to the president are estimating a project’s value based on criteria such as whether it includes private financing; how many jobs it would create; and if construction would go faster if the president cleared regulations, speeding up permitting approvals. Among the many project types under consideration are transmission electricity lines in the Midwest, and a major gas pipeline in Alaska.

Infrastructure consultants are advising investors on terminology and methodology for getting noticed when lobbying to be included in the final plan.

Irby Participates at Georgia Power Clay Shoot

The 9th Annual Georgia Power Clays Tournament took place on May 5th, and Irby Construction was eager to participate. This clay shoot benefitted Citizens of Georgia Power, and all proceeds raised from the event were donated to Electric Kids, Inc., a registered charity for the children of deceased or disabled Georgia Power employees. This is an event that has raised over $250,000 since 2010 and Irby was  happy to be a part of that this year.

The Tournament took place in Gay, GA at Bid Red Oak Plantation. A lunch followed the event where teams and players were given a chance to network and socialize.

Irby was especially excited to participate in a Georgia Power event on the heels of recently completing a 2-year project with them. To read more about the project, visit the GPC Thomson-Vogtle 500kV Transmission Line project page.
