IRBY’S PARENT COMPANY ACQUIRES NORTHWEST LINEMAN COLLEGE

In January, Irby’s parent company, Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE:PWR) completed the acquisition of Northwest Lineman College (NLC). It is also known as the leading resource for training across a lineman’s complete work life span, from apprenticeship to experienced lineman. NLC is based in Boise, Idaho and operates campuses in California, Florida, and Texas. The school trained approximately 5,600 people last year.

As part of the Quanta Services family of companies, Irby Construction is excited about the opportunities this acquisition presents our company for hiring skilled labor and meeting the demands presented by the industry.  Read more on the Quanta Services website and visit Northwest Lineman College for details on the program or becoming a lineman.

Competition for Transmission Construction

A recent story published at thehill.com highlights growing demand for electric transmission projects and The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) recent adoption of Order 1000. The order will inject competition (for the first time in some instances) to the process of building much needed electric transmission capacity. The changes are fueled by the knowledge that building new capacity is the fastest growing cost on ratepayers’ electricity bills. FERC sees competition as a means to construct the much-needed transmission projects cost-effectively; a point of view that has been shaped by experience. The story features the CREZ project in Texas as a prime success story. Take a look at the complete story for more insight.
